The playing modes

We have the right playing mode for every scenario on the court. Here you can find out when which mode makes the most sense. 🎾

You can choose between different game modes at the Wingfield Box:

  • Freeplay
  • Match
  • Drills

All three modes present different scenarios on the court and therefore also provide you with different features in the app.

⚠️ Attention: In selected federations you can already access a fourth game mode (the competition mode). For the sake of completeness, we include it here.

You have access to these features in the individual playing modes...

In Freeplay - our training mode - the focus is on free play. Here you get the clearest analysis of all game modes. You can therefore say that the other options (Match and Drills) build on it.

The basis of all game modes (and thus the core of Freeplay) are - apart from the video - all the tools for analysing your shots. These include the Placement Map, showing all impact points and speeds of your shots, the Height Map, visualising the height distribution of all balls, and the Speed Graph, giving information about the speed of your shots.

What do I have to pay attention to?

With Matches, you get exciting insights into your game – data that was previously only available to the pros on the tour. Our customised summary of your match includes the shot analysis you already know from Freeplay, as well as a wide range of match-specific statistics.

Analyse how many winners you played and how many errors you made. How high were your serve percentages and how fast was your first serve compared to your second? Everything is crowned by automatically created highlight clips of your best rallies.

What do I have to watch out for?

  • ➑️ In addition to the general tracking rules, you should always follow the match-related rules. In this way, you ensure that the Wingfield Box counts properly and can also provide you with all match stats.
  • ➑️ To optimise the tracking result, click the corresponding button on the Wingfield Box every time you change pages.
  • ➑️ After the match, you will be asked when you have finished the match – e.g. in the middle of the match and after a set or after a completely played match. An incorrect input can confuse the system to a certain extent.

πŸ’‘Tip: Use the match mode for your tournament or league games. πŸ†

With the drill mode, you can test your shots in defined exercises. Your forehands, backhands or serves will be evaluated with our Wingfield Drill Scores. They break down your skills to a simple value, allowing you to make simple statements about your shot accuracy and speed and thus bring a bit more objectivity into your training.

What do I have to pay attention to?

  • ➑️ The drill scores are measured in standardised exercises. Therefore, follow the respective specifications for the groundstroke drills (see the article about the drill mode).

πŸ’‘Tip: Use the drill scores to see yourself getting better over time. So play a drill regularly to see where you stand at the moment and how your precision or speed is improving.

Apart from that, you can also use them to challenge yourself with your friends in training. 😎

Besides the normal match mode, you can also unlock the competition mode (the "official" match mode) in selected federations. With it, you have the opportunity to collect points for your national rating thanks to our match validation. Wherever and whenever you want.

Our technology checks your match in this mode and automatically forwards the result to your federation. This is how flexible and relaxed official match play can be πŸ˜‰ .

What do I have to pay attention to?

  • ➑️ Basically, the same things apply to the competition mode as to the match mode. Since you are in an official match format, please also follow the corresponding competition regulations of the respective federation (e.g. official match balls, set rules, etc.).
☝🏼 By the way: For each federation whose competition mode is activated, you will find a sub-category with all the information here in the Help Centre.
