Retiring a Match

One of the players retired the match. Those are the next steps.

Correctly retiring a match

If a player is forced to retire the match, you will be asked to state the reason for retiring at the Wingfield Box. In this case, after you finished the match, select the button retired.

We distinguish between two types of a retirement...

🤕 Injury-related retirement

🤬 Player-related forfeit (e.g. in case of dispute, material failure).

Injury-Related Retirement

If a player is injured to such an extent that he or she could not finish the match, you mark the match as an injury retirement and confirm your result at the Wingfield Box.

Example: Laura was leading, but got a nasty injury in the second set. Unfortunately she had to retire. Get well soon Laura! 🤕

What happens next:

  • Our independent referees will check the match in detail.
  • The result will be sent to the DTB and will be included in your LK at the next possible calculation date.
  • The match fees will be charged as usual.

☝🏼Note: If a player has to retire due to an injury, he/she will not be allowed to play a Wingfield LK match for the next two weeks.

Player-Related Forfeit

If a match is abandoned by a player, e.g. due to material failure or a disagreement that cannot be resolved, you select Other as the reason for the retirement. Confirm your result at the Wingfield Box.

Example: Laura was leading, but after a disagreement decided for herself to forfeit the match. 🤬

What happens next:

  • Our independent referees will check the match in detail.
  • After the validation, you will be contacted by us via e-mail. You now have 24 hours to comment on what has happened.
  • A match report will be sent to the DTB. The DTB decides on the release of the match and any disciplinary actions.
  • The match fees will be charged as usual.
  • If the match can be counted normally, the result will be included in your LK at the next possible calculation time.

☝🏼 Note: If a player abandons the match, he/she will not be allowed to play a Wingfield LK match for the next two weeks.

⚠️ Attention: We want fair matches on the Wingfield Courts. Repeated match suspensions can result in anything from warnings to outright exclusion from LK matches with Wingfield. 📖 Read our article on warnings & sanctions to learn more about the topic.
