Blueprint: Guided Player Assessment

Make your new members' first week memorable and offer new club members a guided Player Assessment with a coach as a welcome gift.

Once a new member has joined your club, offer them to sign up for a free Player Assessment with one of your coaches. In their first weeks, they will experience your unique & professional approach, receive an evaluation of their current playing level, and gain clear insights into areas for improvement.

This guided Player Assessment also…

  • identifies the appropriate coaching program/league/open play for their skill level
  • establishes the first (guided) interaction with Wingfield and enhances the likelihood of future usage
  • increases retention and keeps members engaged and active within the club for longer periods
  • shows a player that you care about them 💚

🤿 Deep dive: Read our article about Player Assessment Mode to understand how you can categorize your Players in the official Player Skill Rating of USA Pickleball. If you want to learn more about how the Drill Scores are being calculated, take a look at the corresponding article.

Group size and procedure

A guided Player Assessment does not have to be a 1:1 coaching session, it makes even more fun with a partner. Thus we recommend doing Assessments with two players who ideally have a similar level of play. We recommend that each player completes a drill before you continue with the next drill together.

💡 Tip: While one player is doing their drill, have the other player collect balls to save time between sessions.

Your role as a coach will be feeding the balls and sharing your expertise in between the drills. Even if you do a skills assessment, it doesn't mean that players can't also benefit from your valuable tips. Use the instant video replay at the Wingfield Box to give feedback on their technique.

Wingfield Box settings:

Let all players log in to the Wingfield Box at the beginning of your session. You will be able to change players before each drill.

  1. Turn on Player Assessment mode
  2. Select the active Player
  3. Choose a suitable level to match their estimated playing level
  4. Choose The first Drill
  5. Click on Start Drill (feed the players as indicated on the UI)
  6. Once all Drills are completed, you have a valid Assessment score

⚠️ Attention: Players have to hit 30 shots to get a score. Play the entire Drill sequence to get an overall Assessment score for this level.

☝🏼 By the way: If the player reached an overall score of 80 at this level, they are ready to proceed to the next level. Continue with the Intermediate sequence.
