Tennis: Drill Mode

In drill mode, the Wingfield Box rates your performance in a target exercise on a scale of 0-100, giving you direct feedback on the court.

Drills make your training a little more interactive and, above all, more competitive. The Wingfield Box rates your performance in an exercise with a very simple score, making it easier for you to define and monitor goals for a workout.

 

The Wingfield Box rates each shot you play on a scale of 0-100. To simplify: the faster and more accurately you hit the previously selected target field, the higher your score will be. The sum of all individual shots is your total score for the drill.

Countless customizations:

Click through the settings for the target zone drills. First select the number of players and the drill type.

  • 👤 1 Player Drills: Only one selected (active) player is analyzed here. The position on the opposite side can be taken by a player/coach or a ball machine.
  • 👥 2 Player Drills: Two players can be selected simultaneously. Both receive points for their turn.

Select targets

You can choose between drills through the middle, serve, cross, longline or combo drills. Depending on the difficulty level activated, the specified target zones become smaller. Play from beginner to advanced to expert mode. Under custom, you can set your own target zones.

👋🏼 By the way: Your high scores for serves (ad & deuce), forehand, and backhand (basket or team) appear in our community rankings in the app (however, you must have played at least 10 balls for this). For groundstroke drills, the score appears in the ranking of the respective shot type you have played more balls with (forehand or backhand).

 

⚠️ Attention: You can only send two players onto the court simultaneously in a team drill. If you are logged into the Wingfield Box with two or more players, you can select the active player(s) before each new round.

Select players

If you are logged in with several players, you must select the active players beforehand.

  • Click on the avatars of the players who should play the drill. They will automatically be displayed next to the court.
  • If necessary, click the Change sides button to adjust the sides again (the small Wingfield Box on the field indicates where you are).
  • Then select the target field and click on Start Drill.

Direct feedback by the Wingfield Box

The special feature of drill mode is that a brief evaluation of your performance appears on the Wingfield box after each session. This direct feedback helps you concentrate on areas that can be improved. Use the scores and the detailed heat map to check whether you have achieved your practice goals round by round.

How are the scores actually calculated?

🎯 Evaluation of your precision

The points awarded vary slightly depending on the shot type (see exemplary image).

  • Groundies: Imagine your chosen target field as a „bullseye". The points awarded decrease evenly from the center and in a circle towards the outside – regardless of whether balls land in the field or out of bounds.
  • Serves: The target fields are located along the T-line. The scores awarded also decrease with increasing distance to the target point. In contrast to the groundstrokes, balls hit out of bounds are penalized more heavily.

💨 Evaluation of your speed

To evaluate your shot speed, we assume peak values (or 100% values) for the different shot types. From these top values, the points awarded initially fall more steeply and then less steeply.

  • Groundies: 100 points = 160km/h (99 mph)
  • Serves: 100 points = 210km/h (130 mph

☝🏼By the way: If you achieve a higher speed, you could, in theory, collect over 100 points.

⚠️ Attention: Shots into the net always count as 0 points.
